Volunteers from the Indian Red Cross Society, civil defence and local NGOs, supplied essentials in the containment zones at Govindpur, around 13km south of Jamshedpur, on Friday.

The volunteers with face masks and gloves were positioned at the control room set up under the supervision of Jamshedpur circle officer Anurag Tiwary at Govindpur to deliver food grains, edible items and other essential items to the households.

“In the containment zones we have identified 49 families with 178 members. A team of 15 volunteers on roster basis have been deployed at the control room. A four-member team comprising health professionals and teachers have been deployed on roster basis 24x7 and any residing member of the containment zones can call the control room to get the essential goods delivered at their houses,” said Anurag Tiwary.

Food packets were delivered in the morning, afternoon and evening.

Meanwhile, the administration has completed contact tracing of six positive Covid-19 cases.

“Contact tracing of the positive cases have been completed and samples of 15 people were taken. The samples have been sent to the MGM Medical College,” said Tiwary.

The administration on Thursday started contact tracing of the six positive cases in the area in a joint operation led by city SP Subhash Chandra Jatt and Dr Mahesh Goyal (epidemiologist) and people with respiratory problems in the area along with the relatives of the six positive case patients got their samples collected during a house-to-house survey.

All residents of the containment and buffer zone have installed the Aarogya Setu app and all movement in the containment zone has been prohibited.

East Singhbhum saw the biggest spike in Covid-19 cases on Wednesday with a total of nine new positive cases. While six were from the same family in Govindpur, a youth from Golmuri with travel history from Bangalore and two youths from Mango with travel history to Mumbai also tested positive. Fortunately, the youth from Golmuri and Mango were already in institutional quarantine at MGM Hospital and were transferred to Tata Main Hospital Covid-19 ward after testing positive.

The family members had been infected by a girl who had returned from Delhi and had stayed in home quarantine at Govindpur for five days before being shifted to the isolation ward in MGM Hospital.

As on Friday afternoon, the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the district had gone up to 15 (two from Chakulia, one each from Patamda, Sidhgora, Baridih and Jugsalai areas have already tested positive).

The containment zone boundary is between Murmu Clinic to Payal Ladies Corner and between Gope Petrol Pump to Pragya Kendra and a buffer zone has been demarcated between Ganesh Store to Railway Crossing and the area near Xavier School.
