Youth outfit Samadhan and Dhanbad police have found a way to engage residents in creative activities that would help them cope better with the monotony and boredom during the 21-day lockdown period.
From Wednesday (April 1), Samadhan in association with the police is organising one competition each day for which participants don’t have to step out of their homes.
A drawing competition on Wednesday was followed by rangoli making on Thursday. Other contests that are lined up from Friday till April 8 are singing, conch shell blowing, selfie with self-protection equipment as a precaution against coronavirus, poetry writing competition, suryanamaskar, mimicry and food recipes.
Samadhan has floated two WhatsApp numbers (8873501989 and 8789458747) where the participants can send photos, poems, audio and video clips.
“The photographs or videos can be sent to the Samadhan WhatsApp numbers between 6am and 4pm on the day of the particular competition. The first three winners will be declared around 8pm on the same day. The list of winners along with their photographs, video and audio clips will be released on the Samadhan and Dhanbad police’s Facebook page,” Samadhan founder Chandan Singh, said.
Singh said a four-member jury comprising two members from Samadhan and two from Dhanbad police would select the winners on a daily basis.
The winners will also be informed individually about their selection and will be felicitated by Dhanbad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal after the lockdown.
Singh said the idea came to his mind while organising a similar competition for students in Jharia last week. He later decided to expand the ambit of the competition.
“This joint effort by Samadhan and Dhanbad police is aimed at promoting creativity during lockdown and break the monotony at a time we can’t step out of our homes. This will help to dispel boredom,” SSP Kaushal said.
