Cops restart helmet drive

The traffic wing of East Singhbhum police on Wednesday resumed the helmet checking drive in various parts of steel city and collected around Rs 50,000 through fines.

The drive was launched simultaneously across three traffic police stations — Bistupur, Jugsalai and Mango.

During the crackdown, which started at 11am and continued for one-and-a-half hours, around 50 motorcyclists were caught flouting traffic rules like riding without helmets or valid documents.

Helmet-less bikers according to Motor Vehicle (Amended) Act, 2019, has to pay Rs 1,000 as penalty.

Driving without a licence invited a penalty of Rs 5,000 and Rs 1,000 was slapped for triple riding.

Deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Shivendra Kumar said such a drive would continue.
