Jamadoba Colliery of Jharia division of Tata Steel was temporarily closed on Friday after one of its employees was found Covid-19 positive.

Disinfection and intensive sanitisation of adjoining areas was carried out by Tata Steel, Jharia division, along with contact tracing of the infected person.

The colleagues and other persons who came into contact with the infected person have been quarantined.

The officer, posted in the Pit 2 colliery of Jamadoba, was rushed to Tata Main Hospital of Jamshedpur after he was found sick from Jamadoba three days ago. He was tested positive on Thursday.

Tata Steel said in a press release issued on Friday, “One of our employees from the Jharia division has been tested positive for Covid-19. As a precaution, and as per guidelines mandated by the ministry of health and family welfare, we have disinfected and sanitised the areas in and around Jamadoba colliery, where our employee was posted and working.

“The Jamadoba colliery is temporarily closed as a precaution considering the ongoing situation. All contact-tracing procedures have been followed. There have been no further symptoms or incidents reported as of now. The health and safety of our employees and stakeholders is our number one priority. We are constantly monitoring the situation and have updated measures to reduce risk to our employees and all stakeholders across all our sites,” it added.

In a related development, a dentist who had treated a covid-19 infected girl at a primary health centre of Nirsa also tested positive on Thursday night and was admitted to the Covid hospital of Dhanbad.

The dental clinic and some adjoining offices at Memco More were closed as a precaution while contact tracing of the dentist was initiated on Friday.

The in-charge of a primary health centre of Nirsa, who returned from Calcutta, along with his son and daughter on June 18, was found Covid positive on June 22.

He, along with his two daughters, son, wife and mother-in-law, was admitted to a Covid hospital on June 23.

Intensive contact tracing was carried out.

Swab samples of over 90 persons, including the doctors and other health workers of Nirsa PHC and private clinic, were taken.

The test reports of 35 doctors and health workers of Nirsa PHC have been found negative.
