The Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration started taking steps to check mishaps on Tata-Kandra Road, which links Adityapur to the steel city’s Bistupur.
The police and administration not only cleared service lanes of encroachment but stopped heavy vehicles from parking on the roadside in Adityapur, the efforts aimed commuter safety on the four lane.
Saturday’s drive was carried by traffic police inspector Ashok Kumar, assisted by Adityapur and Gamharia police, and Gamharia BDO Gauri Shankar Sharma.
On Saturday morning, police and administrative officers removed parked trucks along the service road and stood guard to stop any heavy vehicles getting parked between a stretch between Kharkai bridge and S-Type. The team removed over 25 makeshift shops. In the afternoon, the team went to Gamharia and cleared vehicles and kiosks from Lal Building to Balaidih.
BDO Sharma, supervising the anti-encroachment drive, said on the first day of the drive they let off vendors and vehicle ownerswith a warning, but from Sunday fines would be slapped on encroachers of the service lane.
Traffic inspector Ashok Kumar said they seized five trucks from the service lane.
