Sri Lanka's Marxist-leaning leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, won the presidential election for the debt-ridden island nation, local TV said on Sunday, citing Election Commission figures, reports Reuters.

"The unity of Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, and all Sri Lankans is the bedrock of our new beginning," said Dissanayake following his presidential election victory in Sri Lanka.

"Sri Lanka had a free and fair election with no complaints of law violations," stated the Sri Lanka Election Body.
