South Eastern Railway (SER) has decided to install 325 additional CCTV cameras at various railway stations under four divisions, including Ranchi and Chakradharpur.
Besides Tatanagar, the other railway stations include Ranchi, Muri, Chakradharpur, Rourkela and Jharsuguda. “The initiative is meant to check crime and other anti-social activities at railway stations. The installation work of the cameras will begin soon and is expected to be complete in another three months or so,” said Sanjay Ghosh, chief public relations officer of South Eastern Railway.
According to Ghosh, the SER zone already has 533 CCTV cameras at 22 major stations, including Ranchi, Chakradharpur, Tatanagar, Kharagpur, Adra and Jhargram.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF), which monitors electronic surveillance at Tatanagar, said they had got an intimation for installation of the new CCTV cameras. “We have been asked to identify the locations where the CCTV cameras would be installed,” said M.K. Singh, the RPF inspector.
Officials at Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway, said both Tatanagar and Ranchi railway stations would get 15 CCTV cameras each. “We want to add more CCTV cameras so that all the platforms and the circulating area, including parking slots, are properly monitored,” said an official.
