Jharkhand may have escaped the disastrous impact of cyclone Fani, but it can’t avoid its after-effects at a time four large constituencies are set to vote on Monday.
Weathermen on Sunday said Khunti, Ranchi, Hazaribagh and Koderma would see a sharp rise in day temperatures because of the cyclone that had stripped moisture from the air. However, a trough is expected to bring light rain in Khunti, Ranchi and Hazaribagh.
“The cyclone has absorbed all the moisture in the air while moving towards Bengal and Bangladesh. This has resulted in dry weather condition, causing a sudden increase in temperature in several districts by 3-4°C,” S.C. Mandal, senior meteorologist at IMD’s Ranchi centre, said.
Several places on Sunday witnessed a rise in day reading. The maximum reading in Ranchi shot up to over 35°C from 31°C on Saturday.
In Jamshedpur, the day’s reading soared to 36.4°C from 33°C on Saturday.
In Daltonganj, Latehar, Garwah and several districts in north west Jharkhand, the maximum reading witnessed a rise of 2-3°C.
Palamau, which had recorded around 37°C on Saturday, saw the temperature rise 2-3°C.
Weathermen, however, said a trough at 0.9km above mean sea level running from northeast Chhattisgarh to Comorin area across Telangana, Rayalaseema and interior Tamil Nadu might result in light showers in Jamshedpur, Seraikela, Lohardaga, Latehar, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Khunti and Ramgarh in the next 24 hours.
The Ranchi Met centre issued a forecast of mainly clear sky over most parts of Jharkhand for the next four days.
Weathermen said westerly wind, which was dominating the state, usually resulted in a rise in day temperature.
According to Met data, a few places in the state received light to moderate rain in the last 24 hours. Met observatories in Pakur and Jamshedpur recorded 10mm of rain each.
