Barriers and checkpoints were put up at strategic points in the city to enforce lockdown against the spread of Covid-19.
Police along with traffic cops accompanied by designated magistrates by the civil magistrates were deployed at 15 check-points in the city and eight check-points in the periphery of the steel city.
“Significant number of people have understood the importance of the lockdown, as it is for the betterment of their own health and for the society, but still a section of people oblivious of the threat perspective seem to loiter on the roads and we had to put up such checkpoints and temporary barriers to deter such people from coming to the streets and strictly enforce Section 144 of the CrPC and Jharkhand State Epidemic Diseases (Covid-19) Regulations 2020,” said Jamshedpur city SP Subhash Chandra Jat.
The checkpoints were set up at commercial hubs Sakchi, Bistupur, Telco, Golmuri, Burmamines, Kadma, Sitaramdera, Jugsalai, Parsudih and near Bistupur-Adityapur Road. Seraikela-Kharsawan administration had put up a barrier on the Adityapur bridge to seal the district’s border with East Singhbhum district.
“Entry of vehicles from other districts, barring those carrying essential commodities, has been prohibited,” said Seraikela-Kharsawan deputy commissioner A. Dodde.
