The head of a months-old baby was found from a drain beside the Harmu rivulet bridge on Harmu Bypass road under Argora police station area on Wednesday.
A man who had gone to urinate in the drain found the head, covered with a jute bag, around 1pm and informed police. A locality resident said a big crowd assembled and vehicular movement on the bypass connecting Ratu Road with Harmu, Argora, Ashok Nagar and Dhurwa was disrupted.
Argora police station officer in-charge (OC) Binod Kumar said the head was sent for autopsy to RIMS.
“We did not find any bloodstain,” the OC said. “It is difficult to determine the age and gender of the baby.”
Asked if the head was cut from a dead body, OC Kumar said: “Only a medical report can tell.”
City SP Sourabh Kumar said: “The head has not been identified. We have registered an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and started a probe.”
