Dhanbad police arrested two persons in connection with the alleged assault on a Muslim youth, Zeeshan Khan of Dhanbad.

He was allegedly beaten up by BJP party workers during the Dharna launched against the Prime Minister's security lapse in Punjab. The arrested persons included Jitendra Sao alias Doli Sao and Sanjay Sharma.

In a purported video, a youth is seen being assaulted and pulled by his hair by a group of people. He is also asked to do sit-ups.

The police action came after an FIR was lodged against the five accused and eight to 10 unidentified persons on the complaint of Rehan Khan (30), brother of Zeeshan.

The FIR has been lodged against Jayant Singh Chaudhary, Pintu Singh, Bablu Singh Sahay, Shravan Ram and Tamal Rai.

Talking to media, Dhanbad SSP , Sanjeev Kumar said, “We have arrested two persons and raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining persons.”

Meanwhile, the family members of the victim are in trauma following the incident.

Talking to The Telegraph Online at his house in Shamsher Nagar locality of Dhanbad, Rehan said, “We are a family of three including me, my mentally challenged brother Zeeshan Khan (victim) and mother (Rehan requested not to put her name) living in peace before the incident.”

“My father Naushad Khan who was in private job died way back in 1992 and since then I am the sole bread earner of the family,” said Rehan adding his brother went to Chennai in 2010 to pursue Diploma in Electrical Engineering from SRM Institute but returned without completing the course due to development of Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPAD), a maniac depressive illness, a common complex depressive disorder characterized by recurrent cyclic episodes of mania and depression.

“He also remained admitted in CIP Ranchi for some time and was staying at home as due to Covid several patients are being admitted in hospital,” said Rehan.

“My brother Zeeshan also went to offer Namaz after I left home but I don’t know how he reached the City centre,” said Rehan. ‘We are hand to mouth people who have no political affiliation but came to know about the incident around 2 pm and later saw the video,” said Rehan adding that his brother is also in depression after yesterday's incident."

Rehan refused to be photographed. “If my face comes in public I may be targeted.”

Chief minister Hemant Soren has ordered an inquiry and declared that there was no place for hatred in peace-loving Jharkhand.
