A man and his son were injured when around a dozen youths stormed into their house and beat them up at Road 4 in Jawaharnagar under Mango police station area late on Sunday night.

The attack followed after the two men protested when a youth of the locality Kamal Sharma, 22, allegedly grabbed the hand of a daughter of the family and tried to molest her.

The girl, aged 19, complained to Mango police against Kamal Sharma and others like Amit Sharma, Kush Sharma, Badal Sharma, Lov Sharma and seven others, alleging they beat up her father and brother who had protested against Kamal’s actions.

The girl told Mango police that on Sunday night around 9.30pm, Kamal came in front of her while she was returning from a neighbour’s house, grabbed her hand and dragged her, forcing her to scream. Her father and brother heard her shouts for help and charged at Kamal, asking him to leave her. Her brother also hit Kamal once. Kamal left the spot.

An hour later, a dozen youths led by Amit Sharma, Kamal’s friend, came to her house and beat up her father and brother so badly that they had to be taken to the nearby health hub for treatment. The girl said that she then came to Mango police as the situation was “intolerable”. “I am fed up,” she said. “I had to stop going to college because of Kamal and his other friends. Kamal regularly teased me on my way to college and would try to molest me on finding me alone,” she added.

The Sharma family and their friends also reached Mango police station late on Sunday night and created a ruckus after the girl’s complaint.

Mango OC Mithilesh Kumar said they had received the girl’s complaint and had started getting it verified. “No one has been arrested yet but we are taking up the matter seriously,” he said.
