SSP Anish Gupta on Sunday conducted a security drill at the capital’s Prabhat Tara ground, the venue for the International Yoga Day event where around 40,000 people are expected to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi in performing asanas on June 21.“Security details can’t be disclosed because of security reasons, but there will be sufficient deployment of security forces,” Gupta said after the drill. “Sectoral, mobile and static magistrates will also be deployed.”

The SSP issued a detailed order to all DSPs to carry out patrolling within the areas of their jurisdiction and take all measures possible to prevent crime.

Sources in the police said that around 5,000 cops and around two dozen DSP-rank officers will be deployed across the capital as part of the security measures, for which the district administration is leaving no stone unturned.

“Since the Prime Minister is an SPG (Special Protection Group) protectee, any security arrangement will be done as per the standard security protocol,” a senior police officer said under cover of anonymity. “Not less than 5,000 cops will be deployed. Special deployment will be done on the thoroughfare from the Raj Bhavan to the ground as the prime Minister is expected to arrive a day before the programme and will stay at the Raj Bhavan.”

Contacted, Ranchi DC Rai Mahimapat Ray said a special cell has been formed to make necessary arrangements for the programme.

“The yoga programme is expected to be attended by around 40,000 people,” he said. “The one-hour-45-minute-long programme will start at 6.30am.”

The state government is keen to make it a historic event. Chief minister Raghubar Das has directed DCs of all districts to create awareness among people so that on June 21 yoga events are held even at the village level along with the Prime Minister’s programme.

“We are discussing a proposal to display live feeds of this programme on the giant LED screens at the Morabadi ground where at least 10,000 people can perform yoga,” a Ranchi district official said. “A final will be taken within a couple of days.”
