Four committees will suggest ways to overhaul the over-500-bed MGM Hospital, the largest state-run healthcare hub of Kolhan.
Principal health secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni said state health minister Banna Gupta has ordered the setting up of the committees.
“The state health minister has asked us to constitute the committees outlining their composition for improving facilities at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur. We would be finalising the committees and notify it next week,” said Kulkarni.
Gupta, the Jamshedpur West MLA, had visited the hospital earlier this month and had in the last one week taken feedback from two consultants — Ispat Hospital, Mecon, and Aarogyam — on improving the functioning of the MGM Hospital.
“Based on feedback from experts we have decided to constitute four different committees which would be looking into different aspects of the running of a specialised healthcare institution and suggest methods which can be incorporated into MGM for improving its functioning,” Gupta said. “An 11-member district-level committee led by East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla will extend support to the committees.”
One team, comprising human resource and finance officials of the National Health Mission (NHM) unit of the state health department, will delve into the HR requirement and existing workforce at MGM. Another team with officials of finance and infrastructure cell of the NHM unit will look into infrastructure needs.
The third team will have members of the quality assurance cell of the NHM and delve into cleanliness and sanitation on the hospital campus and in the wards. The last team will comprise members of the integrated diseases surveillance program (IDSP) cell of the NHM and study disease burden load of MGM Hospital over the last two years.
“The teams will submit their report suggesting ways of improvement along with financial estimates. No deadline has been given to the committees but we expect them to submit the report at the earliest,” said Gupta.
The health minister has also cancelled the pending tenders of MGM Hospital with immediate effect.
