Altogether 16 people were killed and 31 others were injured in Amrapada block of Pakur district on Govindpur Sahibganj road this morning at around 8 am when a passenger bus running between Barharwa of Sahibganj District to Jasidih collided head on with a LPG Cylinder laden truck.

The accident was caused due to poor visibility on the road due to dense fog and injured have been rushed to Amrapada Community Health Centre first from they were later rushed to Pakur Sadar Hospital for better treatment after primary treatment.

Senior officials of the district administration and police of Pakur led by Varun Ranjan ,Deputy Commissioner and Hrudeep P Janardhanan who reached at the site in an hour supervised the rescue operation during which the trapped passenger lying in the mangled remains of bus were extricated by cutting the bus through gas cutter machines.

Local residents and eyewitnesses said that the accident took place near Kamardiha Mod of Amrapada block when the Krisha Rajat Bus bearing registration number JH 04K 1698, was heading towards Jasidih in high speed while the LPG Cylinder laden truck of Hindustan Petroleum was coming from opposite direction.

The impact of accident so severe the front drivers cabin of both the vehicle have been completely damaged while the other parts of of bus also been affected locking the exit gate. Local residents and passersby who rushed to site hearing the screams of the passengers tried to rescue them and at the same time informed Amarapara police after which a team of police led by officer in charge, Manjo Kumar reached at the site and launched the rescue work.

Later senior officials of district administration also rushed to site but as gate and windows of bus were badly damaged so extrication of trapped persons was delayed until the gas cutter machine was brought to site around an hour after the incident.

Talking to The Telegraph Online on Wednesday, Kumar Devesh Dwivedi, Circle Office of Amrapada who was also present at site of incident supervising the rescue operation said “the accident took place at around 8 am and bodies of the 15 deceased persons have been sent for postmortem while the 31 injured persons who were first admitted to Amrapada, Community Health Centre have been later referred to Pakur Sadar Hospital for better treatment”.
