A youth allegedly committed suicide inside a police station in Bihar’s Nalanda district after being illegally detained and tortured for five days.
The incident occurred at Telhara police station on Sunday night but came to light on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Krishna Yadav of Korba village. He was found hanging from a window in the police station’s computer room and a computer cable was used in the act.
A police team had allegedly taken Krishna to the police station on January 17 for interrogation in connection with the murder of one Lalit Yadav, husband of the sarpanch of Korba panchayat, which occurred in November last year.
Krishna’s family members alleged that he was kept confined at the police station and continuously tortured for five days before being killed.
“We had made several trips to the police station in the last five days and my son had been telling me that he was being tortured by the police officials to confess to the murder. He repeatedly told me to save him. The police have tortured and killed him,” Krishna’s father Udi Yadav told reporters.
People from Korba panchayat laid siege to the police station after getting information about the death and staged a demonstration.
