A Janata Dal Secular worker has filed a police complaint against Karnataka BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa and three others for allegedly offering money to get his father to defect.

Sharanagouda Kandakur, son of Gurmitkal MLA Naganagouda Kandakur, has sought action against the four under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Sharanagouda has also named Devadurga BJP legislator Shivanagouda Nayak, Hassan MLA Preetham Gowda and former journalist and currently adviser to Yeddyurappa, M.B. Maramkal, accusing them of trying to offer Rs 25 crore to Naganagouda to persuade him to switch to the BJP.

Sharanagouda said he had stealthily recorded the conversation during his purported meeting with Yeddyurappa and the others in the early hours of Friday.

The audio clips had been handed over to chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy of the JDS, who made them public at a media conference.

“I have handed over a CD containing the audio clips to the police,” Sharanagouda told reporters in Raichur on Thursday.

He also accused the BJP leaders of threatening to finish his political career after he turned down the offer.

Naganagouda had allegedly been offered the money and a cabinet berth as part of a purported plot by Yeddyurappa and his associates to pull down the Congress-JDS coalition government. Yeddyurappa has denied all charges.

One of the voices in the audio tapes was heard claiming that Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar had been “booked” for Rs 50 crore for him to ignore the anti-defection provisions.

During the House session on Monday, Kumar advised Kumaraswamy to order a probe by a special investigation team.

While the chief minister agreed, BJP legislators insisted on a judicial probe. An order constituting the SIT is awaited.
