The deceased has been identified as Ananya Chakraborty, 42. She hailed from Bengal. She was working as an associate professor at the law university, on the outskirts of Cuttack.

She was alone in the house. When her friends called her on Sunday and received no response, they rushed to her home. Finding the door locked from inside, they immediately informed the police. The police, with the help of the local neighbours, broke into the house.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Cuttack, Anil Mishra said: “When the police entered the house, we found her lying on her bed with a pillion nearby. We have videographed everything, and at this point, there is no suspicion of foul play.”

Mishra said: “Ananya Chakraborty’s husband is a lawyer, but they had separated. She had been staying alone. According to the family members, Ananya had a history of heart ailments and was, perhaps, under medication. We suspect she died of a cardiac arrest. We are waiting for the post-mortem report for confirmation.”

Ananya’s family members, including her father, have reached Cuttack.
