Unfazed by criticism of the demolition drive in Jahangirpuri and the Supreme Court's stay on it, the BJP-ruled South Delhi and East Delhi municipal corporations on Friday said they would intensify their anti-encroachment drives and continue to identify structures that had come up illegally on public land.

South Delhi mayor Mukesh Suryan said regular meetings were being held to chalk out the strategy to remove encroachments.

“We are going to intensify our anti-encroachment drives. No one (encroacher) will be spared. Today, too, we held a meeting with officials and identified several sites in the SDMC jurisdiction. More places are being added. By Monday we will have a final list, and action will then be carried out accordingly,” Suryan said.

East Delhi mayor Shyam Sundar Agarwal said anti-encroachment drives were already under way and would be intensified.

“We have identified several areas where encroachment is a major problem (and often) leads to traffic snarls. Some of these locations are in areas like Nand Nagri, Jaffrabad and Seelampur,” Agarwal said.
