New Delhi: Indifferent health of Justice J. Chelameswar put off the second round of a truce meeting on Wednesday but a remark in a courtroom did serve a reminder.

"Why is there so much crowd here? I am a junior judge. Why don't people go to some senior judges' court?" Justice Arun Mishra, who was hearing cases in Court No. 10, asked some advocates.

On Tuesday, Justice Mishra had recused himself from a bench dealing with a petition on the death of judge B.H. Loya who had heard an alleged false encounter case in which BJP leader Amit Shah was subsequently discharged.

The Loya case was mentioned at the media conference called by four judges on Friday to complain that the Chief Justice was allocating key cases among judges who are not as senior as the four.

Justice Mishra had turned emotional on Monday at a get-together of judges because he felt that he was unfairly singled out on Friday.

The judge's wry self-description came at a time some publications had referred to him as a "junior judge" - a classification that does not formally exist as all judges are considered to be equal.

Since Justice Chelameswar could not attend court because of poor health, the judges working on a peace process could not pick up from where they had left off 24 hours ago. On Tuesday, the four senior judges had a meeting with Chief Justice Dipak Misra at his chambers.

Chief Justice Misra on Wednesday headed a five-judge constitution bench that commenced hearing on a batch of petitions on vital issues related to constitutional law.

According to sources, the second round of the meeting is expected to take place on Thursday.
