The Communist Party of India (CPI) expressed solidarity with the people of the war-affected Palestine and Lebanon on Thursday and denounced Israel for attacking them despite several resolutions by the United Nations (UN) for peace.

It also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appeal to the warring countries for a ceasefire and resolve the conflict through negotiations.

“We stand with the heroic people of Palestine and Lebanon, who are struggling against warmonger Israel. Despite several UN resolutions for peace, Israel is adamant and is raining missiles on Palestine and whichever country supports it. It is targeting rehabilitation centres, schools and hospitals,” CPI national secretary K. Narayana said.

The CPI national secretary has been in Bihar since October 1. He and his party colleagues have been visiting villages in Sitamarhi and Darbhanga districts in the wake of the widespread deluge that has engulfed vast areas in 22 districts in the state and
has affected at least 12 lakh people.

Apart from these, lakhs of people in 13 districts along the flood brought by the Ganga in September still stand affected as the water has been receding very slowly.

“The devastation is unimaginable. Many people have become homeless and are camping on the embankments of the Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, Mahananda and other rivers in north Bihar. There has been a huge loss to property, cattle and crops. The Centre should declare the Bihar floods as a natural calamity. Modi should visit Bihar b,” Narayana said.
