On the other hand, businessman Harsh Goenka, chairman of the RPG Group, criticised the humiliation Mallya faced at the Oval.

Another Twitter user also echoed Goenka’s views.

A Twitter user Sumanand said 'Gali Gali main shor hai, Vijay Mallya chor hai'.

Fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who escaped to the UK in 2016 after he was wanted in a Rs 9,000-crore fraud and money laundering case, was called a 'chor' by some Indian fans hen he went to watch the India-Australia match at the London Oval.

As Mallya exited the stadium accompanied by his mother after the match, some Indian fans surrounded him and started chanting “chor, chor”.

After the match, which India won by 36 runs, Mallya shared a photo with his son Siddharth Mallya from the stands of the Oval.

Meanwhile, another person expressed “the fact that offenders like Mallya and Nirav Modi have been roaming freely is a matter of shame”.

Mallya owned the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines. With Mallya and his companies getting embroiled in financial scandals and controversies since 2012, the 63-year-old made a quiet exit to London via Delhi on March 2, 2016. He was a special passenger on board with London-bound Jet Airways flight from Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

A year after fleeing to the UK, Mallya was bailed on an extradition warrant executed by the Scotland Yard in April, 2017.

People also took to Twitter to express their sentiments on the wanted fugitive’s presence in a public event, a World Cup match no less.

Mallya has faced similar insults from the audience in the past as well when he has been at the cricket ground in the UK to watch his favourite sport.
