The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) raided Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Aditya Kumar’s residences in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday over allegations of possessing disproportionate assets (DA) worth Rs 1.37 crore.
The 2011-batch officer is already absconding following an FIR accusing him of shielding the liquor mafia and another FIR for allegedly conspiring to con Bihar director general of police S.K. Singhal into closing the case and giving him a clean chit with the help of a friend Abhishek Agrawal who posed as Patna high court chief justice Sanjay Karol.
“The SVU registered a case vide 16/2022 against Aditya Kumar, IPS, the then senior superintendent of police of Gaya, Bihar (now under suspension) under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 120B on December 5 for possession of disproportionate assets to the extent of Rs 1.37 crore,” SVU additional director general (ADG) Nayyar Hasnain Khan said.
“Searches are being carried out today (Wednesday) at the houses and residential premises of the accused at Patna, Ghaziabad and Meerut on the strength of search warrants issued by the court of the special vigilance judge,” Khan added.
The raids were conducted at flat number 505B at Vasi Kunj Apartment at Saguna Mor in Patna, flat 294 at Janhitakari Apartment at sector-6 in Ghaziabad, and Kumar’s native house at Subhash Nagar in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
The efforts to arrest Kumar have failed so far and the police are considering seeking a red corner alert on him from Interpol.
