Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) sleuths arrested a station house officer (SHO) in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person to help him in a case.
SHO Anand Kumar Gupta was arrested from his official residence located within Uphara police station premises.
VIB officials said that one Sanoj Kumar, a resident of Hamidnagar village under the concerned police station, had complained on August 16 that Gupta was asking for Rs 20,000 to help him in a case registered against him on June 24 this year.
"Accordingly, the complaint was verified and was found to be true. An FIR was registered at the vigilance police station in Patna and a raiding team was constituted under deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Abhay Kumar Ranjan. The team caught Gupta while taking the bribe on Thursday morning," a senior VIB official said.
The arrested SHO will be produced before the special vigilance court in Patna after interrogation.
Sources said Gupta was demanding money to remove the names of three accused from an abduction case.
The information about the raid was not given to Aurangabad police. Prior to this, the VIB had arrested several police station in-charges for accepting bribes.
