Uttarakhand police have arrested a construction worker from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on the charge of sexually assaulting and killing a nurse in Udham Singh Nagar district’s Rudrapur.
The 33-year-old nurse at a private hospital in Rudrapur used to live in Bilaspur colony of the town along with her daughter. A sister of the nurse had registered a missing report with the police on July 31, saying there had been no trace of her for the past 24 hours.
The nurse had gone to the gym on July 30 evening but didn’t return home.
Her mutilated body was found in a bush in Dibdiba in Rudrapur on August 8. The police couldn’t reach any conclusion following her post-mortem.
“While scanning CCTV footage, we saw her get off a three-wheeler at Dibdiba and walking towards Vasundhara colony, where she had rented a house. We also saw someone stalking her but couldn’t identify the man. We failed to track her movements thereafter. Her family members informed us that her mobile phone and some cash were stolen from her pocket,” Manjunath TC, senior superintendent of police of Udham Singh Nagar, said.
“We found during electronic surveillance that her phone was in use with a different SIM, bought in the name of one Khushbu from village Tursapatti in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. However, we didn’t find her there when we conducted a raid. Later, we found that the phone was kept somewhere in Jodhpur. We finally arrested the accused, Dharmendra Kumar and his wife Khushbu, from there
on Wednesday.”
The officer said Dharmendra had admitted to sexually assaulting her and smashing her head with a stone and strangulating her with her scarf.
