Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said an investment target of Rs 2.5 lakh crore has been set for the Global Investors Summit scheduled to be held in December in Dehradun.
As many as 27 policies have been promulgated for different sectors. A land bank of 6,000 acres has also been prepared in the state, Dhami said earlier this month in Dehradun while launching the logo and website for the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit.
During the curtain-raiser for the Global Investor Summit on Thursday, ITC proposed an investment of Rs 5,000 crore to the Uttarakhand government, a media statement said.
Memorandums of understanding of Rs 1,000 crore with Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd and Rs 1,600 crore with E-Kuber were also signed.
The fact that such significant investment proposals have been agreed upon on the first day reflects the enthusiasm of investors towards Uttarakhand and the government’s commitment, the release said.
Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd will invest Rs 1,000 crores in Uttarakhand in the next three months to establish 45 resorts at various locations, creating employment opportunities for 1,500 people. This is the largest investment by Mahindra
Holidays and Resorts India Ltd in any state in the country, the statement said.
In his address, the chief minister said that Uttarakhand was rapidly emerging as a youthful state with immense opportunities for industries. In addition to ease of doing business, there is also the concept of peace of doing business in the state. Incidents of labour unrest are almost nonexistent in the working industries of the state, he said.
Chief minister Dhami mentioned that the government is working on a vision to develop Uttarakhand with world-class foundational infrastructure and a conducive business environment.
The summit will be preceded by an international roadshow in London from September 25 to September 28. Chief minister Dhami will also be part of this event. Following this, roadshows will be held in Singapore and Taiwan in the first week of October and from October 16 to October 20 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Earlier this month, referring to the preparations for the summit, the chief minister said that the state government is in constant touch with the industry and major industrial organisations.
“Talks were held with prominent industrialists in Dehradun on August 17 and in Delhi on 21. The suggestions received from the industry have been taken very prominently into consideration,” Dhami said.
Measures to ensure reforms have been incorporated in the MSME policy, service sector policy, logistics policy and solar policy, he added.
The chief minister said there was a lot of enthusiasm among the industrialists because of the favourable environment for industries and investments in the state.
“People have been coming to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand for centuries for peace. A large number of tourists come every year, now investors are also excited to come here,” Dhami said.
Along with being a destination of peace and tourism, Uttarakhand has also become a major investment destination. People from abroad want to join here. Because of its
natural environment, effective single window system, investment-friendly policies, proximity to the national capital and infrastructure, Uttarakhand is becoming a major centre for investment, a media statement said.
Uttarakhand is in the Achievers category in Ease of Doing Business. In the Export Preparedness Index released by NITI Aayog, Uttarakhand ranks first among the Himalayan states while it ranks ninth in the country as a whole.
The chief minister said that the industries which are already established in Uttarakhand have also talked about their expansion.
Employment will be created by investment in the state, people’s income will increase and Uttarakhand will play an effective role in the development of the country, the statement quoted the chief minister as saying.
