A woman in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly tied with a rope, beaten and tonsured by her husband and his family members because she had made the allegation of molestation against the son of her brother-in-law (husband’s elder brother).
The incident took place in a village under Vishungarh police station in Kannauj district on September 3. It came to light when someone, who had recorded the entire incident on his mobile phone, posted it on social media on Thursday. Police sprung into action, identified the middle-aged woman and got her application, in which she narrated six hours of her ordeal.
The police have arrested six persons including the husband. “The victim has stated in the complaint that she had gone to her brother-in-law’s (her husband’s elder brother) house on Wednesday to tell them that their 22-year-old son, Raja Nath, had been trying to molest her every now and then. They caught her, tied her with a pillar and thrashed her mercilessly. Then they tonsured her head and called her husband, who beat her up with a lathi,” a police officer quoted her stating in the complaint.
“She has said that her nephew entered her house last time on September 3 when her husband was away and tried to molest her. He attacked her and ran away from there when she resisted. She went to Raja Nath’s parents to let them know about the incident but they tied her up and kept beating her for about six hours,” the police officer said.
However, a villager claimed that the woman was going to the police after she was molested by her nephew.
“They caught her outside the village and brought her back. Then they tied her up and did everything that she had stated in the complaint. The entire village saw the incident but none of them reacted because the family of Bacchu Nath, the main accused and father of the alleged molester, is considered dangerous. He and his son attack any villager over minor issues,” said the villager who didn’t want to be named.
Vinod Kumar Kashyap, the police station in-charge, said: “We had arrested three accused on Thursday and nabbed two on Friday. They are Bacchu Nath, Guddu Nath, Pappu Nath, Guddi Nath and Raja Nath. Later, her husband was also arrested. They were produced before a magistrate and sent to jail.”
