The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday launched a week-long drive against illegal liquor and drugs supply across the state.

This comes a day after Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath ordered confiscation of properties of those found involved in these businesses and also constituting an 'Anti Narcotics Task Force' (ANTF) to check drug trafficking.

The action taken under the drive until August 31 will be examined by a high-level committee, a press statement said.

Under the drive, district-level officials will submit details about the action taken by them against offenders and also furnish a certificate stating their respective districts are free of such substances.

The committee will examine these claims and action will be taken in case of discrepancies, the statement said.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said, "District-level officials have been asked to identify and take action against individuals involved in smuggling of illegal drugs and liquor under every police station area."

Further, Government Railway Police (GRP) has been directed to ensure strict checking in trains.

On Tuesday, Adityanath had ordered to confiscate properties of those found involved in illicit liquor and drugs trade and put up their posters in public places.

While reviewing the campaign against illicit liquor and narcotics, he had said involvement in such illegal trade should be considered a "national crime".
