The official Twitter account of the University Grants Commission (UGC) was hacked in the early hours of Sunday, reports anandabazar.co
Along with changing the display picture and background picture of UGC India's Twitter handle, the hacker made a series of tweets one after the other, tagging hundreds of Twitter users.
Notably, this is the third prominent Twitter account that has been hacked in the past two days including the UP Chief Minister's Office and the Indian Meteorological Department of India.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered in this regard against unknown persons under relevant sections of the IT Act at the cyber police station in Lucknow. The matter will be probed by a team of experts from the DGP office.
The UP government said the strictest action will be taken against those responsible. The case is being investigated by cyber experts.
The breach has come to notice when some unidentified hackers took control of UGC India's Twitter account and posted a long thread of irrelevant tweets tagging numerous unknown persons across the world. The hacker has also used a cartoonist picture as the profile photo.
The University Grants Commission is the only grant-making agency in the country, that has been entrusted with two responsibilities, which include the responsibility of providing funds and determining and maintaining standards of higher education in the country.
