Police sources said the officer and his wife were returning to their house and waiting near the traffic square near Kalinga Stadium Square to take a U-turn around 9.40pm. Suddenly, the accused came on a bike and blocked their path.

When the traffic light turned green, the officer asked the youths to allow them to move on. Instead of moving out of the couple's way, the youths allegedly started hurling abuses and making obscene remarks. They also allegedly tried to open the door of Das's car.

Das immediately sought the help of the traffic police constable deployed at the traffic centre. The traffic inspector called the police patrol that reached the spot and took the two youths into custody.

After Das lodged an FIR, police commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh rushed to the police station and assured cooperation.

“This is a road rage case. As a responsible citizen, it's my duty to inform the police. The police were responsive and swung into action. The two youths were drunk,” Das said.

Deputy commissioner of police (Bhubaneswar), Pinak Mishra, said: “We did the breathalyzer test of the accused. They were heavily drunk. They were arrested and forwarded to court.”
