The Centre has confirmed that Canadian Premier Justin Trudeau had discussed the farmers’ protests with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday but said this was to commend the “efforts of the government of India to choose the path of dialogue as befitting in democracy….”

Foreign ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava was asked about the Canadian readout of the conversation stating that the leaders “discussed Canada and India’s commitment to democratic principles, recent protests, and the importance of resolving issues through dialogue’’. There was no mention of this in the Indian readout.
