The Trinamul Congress on Thursday urged all Opposition parties to open investigations into the operations of the Adani group in the states where they have a government.

This would add up to a total of 10 states, including Bengal. Briefing media persons in the capital, Trinamul MPs Derek O’Brien and Saugata Roy said this would mean investigations into the working of the Adani group in Telangana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Delhi.

Asked why the Bengal government was not taking the lead in this regard, O’Brien said: “We are here to speak for the party.”

The Trinamul briefing was essentially to put forth the party’s view on the manner in which the Narendra Modi-Amit Shah duopoly was “turning Parliament into a deep dark chamber”, maintaining that the disruption suits the government which does not want to be accountable to the people.

“In the last four days, we have seen a dubious dark history being made of the government itself disrupting Parliament. They used to do this in a nuanced manner in the past. Now it is being done openly,” O’Brien said, adding that the Trinamul MPs picketed the Well even before the proceedings began to push for a chance for the Opposition to speak.
