Three suffer fractures as ‘overloaded’ lift in Noida hotel crashes

Nine people were injured after an elevator at a hotel here malfunctioned and went into a free fall from the third to the ground floor, police said on Friday.

Three of the injured persons at the hotel near Baraula in Sector 49 suffered fractures, they said.

“The incident was reported from Regenta Hotel. Nine people have suffered injuries. Six people had minor injuries while three have been left with fractures,” additional deputy commissioner of police (Noida) Shakti Avasthy said.

“Prima facie, it appears the incident took place because of overloading,” Avasthy said.

On Thursday, a similar incident had happened at a Greater Noida society. An elevator at the Golf Gardenia society in the Alpha 2 sector had a free fall from the ground floor to the basement with eight members of a family inside. The family members, who included a two-year-old child and two senior citizens, were unhurt but they remained stuck inside the elevator for two hours.
