Telangana has emerged as the only state in the country that has overcome power cuts and is providing continuous quality electricity to all sectors, the K. Chandrashekar Rao government has said.

According to the state government, the plans designed by the chief minister helped the state in attaining self-reliance on power generation in just nine years.

At the time of the inception of the state in 2014, Telangana had a power generation capacity of 7,778 MW and now in 2023, it has been increased to 18,567 MW.

The government has also expanded the power supply systems and it spent Rs 97,321 crore in these nine years to strengthen both production and supply systems.

The Telangana government provides electricity subsidies on a large scale so as to give impetus to the sectors that contribute to the all-round development of the state.

Since 2014, more than Rs 50,000 crore was given as a subsidy on electricity supplied to 72.41 lakh consumers belonging to household, employment and agriculture sectors, claimed the state government.

The electricity provided by the government led to the economic development of farmers and various low-income groups which improved their living conditions.

According to the state government data, they are providing a total of 27,48,598 free electricity connections in the agriculture sector.

The government is also bearing the electricity charges of BPL families of about 35,61,809 households consuming 0-50 units of electricity per month. A total of 25,00,433 scheduled caste consumers using less than 101 units per month and 2,95,114 scheduled tribe consumers get benefited through the government power policies.

Besides these, 6,494 poultry farm owners, 32,654 hair-cutting salon owners, 65,806 laundry shop owners, and 56 Dhobi Ghats are getting the benefit of electricity subsidy. The state government is also supplying subsidised electricity to 5,011 power looms and 39 spinning mills.

All these initiatives have helped Telangana become a leader in agriculture, industrial, service and business sectors, said the KCR government.
