Technological innovations to tackle threats to the country’s internal security, threats from Maoists and seamless coordination between different law enforcement agencies to resolve complicated crime cases will be in focus during the three-day conference of director-generals of police (DGPs) and inspector-generals of police (IGPs) which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address on Saturday.
The conference was inaugurated on Friday by home minister Amit Shah.
The growing threat from the activities of Maoists and the need to neutralise them, Bangladeshi infiltration, threat to coastal security, and the country’s overall law and order situation with a focus on Manipur would figure prominently during the conference.
Just before leaving Delhi for Bhubaneswar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X: “Over the next two days, will be in Bhubaneswar for the DGP/IGP conference. Senior police officers from all over India will take part in this
conference. There will be extensive deliberations on enhancing India’s internal security apparatus. Different aspects relating to policing and improving public safety will be discussed.”
After arriving here, Modi attended a felicitation programme where he expressed hope that top police officers congregating in Bhubaneswar for the conference would go back wiser, armed with valuable experience.
Sources said the use of artificial intelligence, deep-fake and drones will be discussed intensively during the conference which will seek to lay the roadmap for ensuring foolproof internal security of the country.
Highly placed sources said attending DGPs and IGPs will divide themselves into groups to discuss internal-related issues, especially the recurring violence in Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and offer suggestions which will be collated to facilitate the preparation of draft suggestions.
A former DGP who has been part of such conferences in the past, said this is a unique opportunity for the top-ranking policemen of the country to explore and understand the mindset of Modi and Shah. “All the senior IPS officers coming from across the country are waiting to see what the Prime Minister will share with them while delivering his speech on Saturday,” a former DGP told The Telegraph.
Shah wrote on X: “The conference to be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modjji will delve into the aspects of further bolstering Bharat’s security in the face of emerging challenges.”
Besides peace initiatives, infrastructure development and coastal security aspects would be important issues to be discussed by the DGPs.
