The Supreme Court will review its verdict in the road rage case involving cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu and assess if the Punjab Congress chief is liable for graver charges, reports ndtv.com.

Sidhu has been given two weeks to respond to the apex court notice. Advocate Sidharth Luthra, who appeared for the victim's family, appealed for graver offences.

P Chidambaram, who was representing Sidhu, was of the view that "the initial application from the petitioner was only about quantum of sentence and not nature of offence," as quoted by ndtv.com.

He also opposed the nature of offence since Sidhu was being grilled after so many years since the incident.

The court on Friday was hearing a petition that sought a review of its May 2018 verdict that acquitted Sidhu in the 1988 road rage case where a Patiala resident Gurnam Singh had passed away.
