The Supreme Court on Monday extended its interim stay on the Uttar Pradesh government’s directive to eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners.

A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and R. Mahadevan could not hear the matter owing to paucity of time but extended the interim order.

The bench did not specify the next date of hearing even as a party to the dispute sought an “early date” as the festival was coming to an end on Tuesday.

This is the second time the apex court had extended the stay. It had initially granted an interim stay on July 22 and later extended it on July 26.

On July 26, the bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S.V.N. Bhatti extended the interim order to enable Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi to file their response to the July 22 notices issued by the court on four separate petitions challenging the directive.
