The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has decided to suspend its secretary Ashok Arora who has convened an emergency meeting on May 11 to remove president Dushyant Dave for criticising a judge for lavishing praise on the Prime Minister in February.

Dave told The Telegraph that a panel of three SCBA office-bearers would probe certain unpublicised allegations against Arora.

However, Arora questioned the suspension, saying Dave himself had on Thursday maintained that an elected member cannot be removed by anybody, including the general body.

In an official resolution in February, Dave had disapproved of Justice Arun Mishra’s description of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “an internationally acclaimed great visionary” and a “versatile genius”, saying such remarks reflected poorly on judicial independence.
