Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors Sanjay Hegde and Sadhana Ramachandran on Monday submitted to the court their assessment of the Shaheen Bagh situation in a sealed cover following talks with protesters at the longest-running vigil against the new citizenship act.

The bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K.M. Joseph said it would peruse the report and take up the matter for further hearing on Wednesday, when it is expected to pass certain orders.

Justice Kaul declined the request of a lawyer for a petitioner that they be given a copy of the report.

The court said the sealed cover report could be perused at this juncture only by the bench.

The top court had on February 17 asked advocates Hegde and Ramachandran to talk to the Shaheen Bagh protesters and persuade them to move to an alternative site, where no public place will be blocked.

The court was dealing with petitions seeking the eviction of the Shaheen Bagh protesters.
