An IT firm executive who had been suspended over allegations of sexual harassment at workplace was found dead at his home here, with police registering an abetment-to-suicide case against some of the company’s employees, including the two women who had complained against him.
Swaroop Raj, an assistant vice-president in Genpact, was found hanging from the ceiling fan by his wife at their Sector 137 home on Wednesday.
Senior superintendent of police of Gautam Buddh Nagar Ajay Pal Sharma said a purported suicide note had been found at Raj’s home.
The note, addressed to Raj’s wife, claims that the allegations are “baseless”.
“I want to let you know how much I love you. Two of the employees have accused me of sexual harassment but trust me I didn’t do anything. I know the world will understand this but you and our families should trust me. The allegations are baseless and the entire Genpact will soon know about it,” the letter says.
“I don’t have the courage to face everyone. I want you to be strong and live your life with respect, your husband has not done anything. I am leaving as everyone will look at me with eyes of disgust even if I come clean,” the note adds.
Confirming the suspension, Genpact condoled Raj’s death.
“The complaint made serious allegations of sexual harassment which are being duly investigated by the internal complaints committee. To have a fair, uninfluenced inquiry, he was placed under temporary suspension pending the closure of the inquiry in line with legal requirement and company policy so that ICC could carry out a reasonable investigation into the allegations received from two female employees,” a company spokesperson said.
An FIR was registered at Surajpur police station on Thursday evening on a complaint by Raj’s wife, who accused some Genpact officials of abetting the suicide.
“The complaint is against the company’s management, including the officials of the committee probing the matter and the employees who had accused Raj of sexual harassment,” said Nishank Sharma, circle officer, Greater Noida.
