A father was beaten to death by his son for his failure to bring back home the cows and goats he had taken to the nearby forest for grazing.
The incident took place at Ganighasa village under Lahunipada police station of Sundergarh district, about 380km from here, on Monday.
Police said: “Bhuban Munda, 48, went to the forest on Monday with the cows and goats. However, he came back in the middle and went to the nearby country liquor shop and consumed liquor to celebrate Diwali. Seeing his father in an inebriated state, son Akash got infuriated.”
Akash, 19, reportedly enquired about the cows and goats and he found one of the goats was missing.
Enraged over the incident, he started questioning the father.
The duo reportedly had a heated exchange of words about the missing goat.
Later, things went out of control. Akash suddenly started beating his father with a stick until he collapsed. Blood oozed from his head and Bhuban collapsed.
The locals rushed to the spot and immediately took Bhuban to the hospital where he was declared dead.
“A case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC. We have arrested Akash and forwarded him to jail,” said police.
In another incident, a 34-year-old son hacked his father to death over a family-related issue.
The incident took place at Padhala village under Aska police station in Ganjam district in southern Odisha on Monday night, about 190m from here.
Sources said father Debraj Nahak, 64, had serious differences over his son Arun’s second marriage.
After Arun’s second wife got pregnant, the difference between the father and the son further aggravated.
“On Monday late evening they had a quarrel over the issue where the second wife would deliver her child either at the father-in-law’s house or in her parental house.
“Enraged over the stance of the father, the son stabbed his father with a knife,” said police.
Later locals rushed Debraj to the hospital at Aska where he was declared dead.
“A case has been registered. The son was arrested and forwarded to the court,” said police.
