The Shiv Sena wants an equal division of seats with ally BJP in Maharashtra for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, along with the chief minister’s post.

Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with party MPs at his residence, Matoshree, in Mumbai on Monday.

“The meeting was called to chalk out the strategy for the upcoming budget session. There was a brief discussion on seat-sharing with the BJP but no decision was taken. We would, though, like to remind the BJP that we were and remain the big brother in the alliance,” said Sanjay Raut, Sena MP and editor of party mouthpiece Saamana.

“We can shake up the seat of power in Delhi,” he added.

The BJP is yet to signal seat talks with the Sena, its oldest ally, which has been critical of the Narendra Modi and Devendra Fadnavis governments.

“Whether or not Modi returns as Prime Minister is none of our concern. Our main demand is that the chief minister should be from the Sena,” a Sena MP said.

The Sena, unhappy with the Modi government for the delay in building a Ram temple in Ayodhya, has also cornered the Centre on corruption, especially over Rafale deal, supporting an Opposition demand for a joint parliamentary committee probe.
