Prajwal Revanna, the Hassan MP and Lok Sabha election candidate of the BJP-JDS alliance who is facing an inquiry over the alleged sexual abuse of several women, said on Wednesday that the truth would prevail.

The MP, who left the country as soon as the election to his constituency ended, has also sought seven days’ time to appear before the SIT formed by the Karnataka government to inquire into the huge cache of about 3,000 explicit videos and photos allegedly pertaining to him, which have gone viral on social media.

“As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to CID Bangalore through my advocate. Truth will prevail soon,” Prajwal, grandson of former Prime Minister and JDS patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda, said in a Facebook post.

A case has been registered against MLA and former minister H.D. Revanna and his son Prajwal at Holenarasipura on a complaint lodged by their former cook and relative for allegedly sexually harassing her. She also alleged that Prajwal made video calls to her daughter and spoke in an objectionable manner, which forced her to block him.

The MP, who is seeking re-election from Hassan on a JDS ticket, shared a letter by his lawyer Arun G to the deputy superintendent of police of the SIT in which he has sought seven days’ time to appear before the official because he is abroad.

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday alleged that former Prime Minister Deve Gowda had planned the escape of his grandson Prajwal.

Prajwal is accused in an alleged sex scandal which is being investigated by an SIT constituted by the Karnataka government. He is believed to have escaped to Germany shortly after polling in the first phase of elections in the state got over on April 26.

“Who gives passport and visa for travelling abroad? It’s the Centre. Can he go without the Centre’s knowledge? It was former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda who planned and sent him abroad,” the chief minister told reporters. He was replying to a query on the BJP’s allegation that the state government allowed Prajwal to escape.

The chief minister also slammed home minister Amit Shah and asked why his party gave ticket to its alliance partner candidate if BJP was pro “Matru Shakti” (women power).

The SIT headed by additional director-general of police B.K. Singh was formed after a large number of explicit videos, allegedly featuring Prajwal, went viral on social media. The team has two other IPS officers of SP rank.

On Union home minister Shah’s statement that his party “respected Matru aur Nari Shakti”, Siddaramaiah sought to know why it gave Prajwal a ticket when it had information about his videos beforehand.

“Why did the BJP give a ticket to him if it was ‘pro-Matru-Shakti’? When they were aware of the video, why was the ticket given to him? Why did they form an alliance when they knew that there were such videos? What does it mean? What does it indicate? Please explain to me,” the chief minister said.
