A servitor of the 12th Century Shree Jagannath Temple sustained head injuries following an attack by another servitor inside the temple premises on Monday.

Sources said a servitor Ramakrushna Khuntia carrying an earthen pot was entering the temple through its southern gate that was opposed by another servitor (a Yatri Sahyak or servitor engaged to assist devotees) Damodar Gocchikar. The latter said this was against the tradition.

However, Khuntia insisted on entering through the southern gate that led to a scuffle between the two. An angry Khuntia hit Gocchikar with the earthen pot he was carrying, causing serious head injuries to the latter. Police detained Khuntia. Gocchikar was rushed to the hospital from where he has been released following treatment.
