The security arrangement at the Bangladesh high commission at the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave in Delhi was scaled down on Tuesday, Delhi police sources said.
On Monday, the police had beefed up security outside the commission in the wake of the precarious political situation in the neighbouring country.
Sources said only barricades were placed outside the high commission entry gate on Tuesday morning. “We have scaled down security arrangements outside the commission considering CCTV surveillance is already in place in the diplomatic enclave. We are keeping a close eye through CCTV cameras,” said a Delhi police official.
An official of the commission told this newspaper that visa services were operational for Indians and foreigners. “But today we have received a large number of visa applications from Indian and foreign journalists and those are being processed,” he said, adding there was no security concern as “we are functioning as usual”.
Sources on Tuesday said security had been strengthened outside the Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad where Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is stationed at a guesthouse on the premises. “Hasina’s safe house inside the airbase has been fortified. Access to the airbase is being tightly controlled,” said a security official.
