The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday filed a compliance affidavit regarding the counselling of students who were allegedly instructed by their school principal to slap a Muslim boy for not doing his homework in Muzaffarnagar last year.
While taking on record the affidavit a bench of Justices A.S. Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan told the state’s additional advocate-general Garima Prashad that the court would also examine the “wider issues” relating to the implementation of the Right to Education Act, 2009, and the applicability of the Juvenile Justice Act at the next hearing on April 15.
Prashad told the bench that counselling sessions had started for the kids as recommended by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences by using the services of three organisations — Muskan, Childline and HAQ — and the workshops would be held till April 24.
