The day of the Delhi Assembly election results saw joyous celebrations at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in Delhi.
Party workers celebrated noisily with dhols and played Lagey Raho Kejriwal, the party campaign song composed by musician Vishal Dadlani, on speakers when trends showed the party winning over 50 per cent of the vote share, more than what even the internal survey had predicted.
The celebrations at the crowded office lasted well into late afternoon. Those who could not get in celebrated on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Road. The road also happens to house the BJP’s national office barely a kilometre away.
Some of the AAP supporters began bursting crackers. This sent party seniors scampering looking for those who burst the fireworks. The supporters were soon reined in and reminded of Arvind Kejriwal’s eco-friendly message.
The day was not completely free of worries for the party, however. The possibility arose that Manish Sisodia could fall behind the BJP candidate, though the gap gradually narrowed and eventually erased. The deputy chief minister scored his win with a slender margin of just over 3000 votes.
Eager supporters were addressed by the party chief who came along with his family. Before him, other winners — Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha — addressed those who had gathered from party office roof.
