Uttar Pradesh police have decided on a technology-based security system for the Ram temple in Ayodhya that will cost Rs 77 crore, director-general of police Raj Kumar Vishwakarma said on Sunday.
“Instead of a visible policing system, there will be modern technology to protect the temple, for which we have prepared a Rs 77-crore project,” the DGP told a news conference in Ayodhya.
“You will also see many technological changes for the safety of Ayodhya town, as it is part of our priority.”
However, the officer, who visited the area where the temple is being built, did not suggest there was any danger to the site.
Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and their cabinet colleagues visited the site of temple construction on Sunday and offered prayers in the makeshift Ram temple nearby. They also met a few eminent local sadhus.
Shinde later said: “It was only with the blessings of Lord Ram that we got the bow-and-arrow as the election symbol of the Shiv Sena.”
Fadnavis said: “We don’t do politics in the name of Lord Ram. I was on my way to New Delhi to attend a meeting of our central election committee to choose candidates for the Karnataka elections, and stopped by to take the blessings of the god (Ram).”
The Centre has said the temple will be inaugurated next January, that is, months before the general election.
