Senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Rajya Sabha member Manoj Jha said on Tuesday that central investigation agencies would be hyperactive till January 22 — the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ram temple at Ayodhya — and expressed apprehension that “anything could happen” to Opposition leaders across the country.

Jha pointed out that Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and other Opposition leaders were being targeted by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

“The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a one-point programme from today to January 22 to misuse the CBI and the ED. These
will be hyperactive till then. People working in these agencies have alerted us to files being sent to their offices from the BJP headquarters. Many of those working in the agencies are honest people,” Jha said.

“Several Opposition leaders, including Mamata, Kejriwal, Soren and Tejashwi, are the target of these agencies. They could either be summoned or anything could happen to them anytime. They want to make the Opposition afraid, keep it entangled for the next four months,” Jha added.

The Rajya Sabha member was interacting with media persons after discussing with RJD spokespersons the strategy on how to deal with unforeseen circumstances like the action by the probe agencies against party chief Lalu Prasad, Tejashwi and other members of the family.

Tejashwi and Lalu had skipped their ED summons on December 22 and 27, respectively, in the alleged land-for-jobs scam in the railways. While the former has been summoned again on January 5, the latter could also be called again.

Jha warned the BJP against indulging in the misuse of the central agencies.

“We are not afraid of such agencies, but the BJP is misusing them because it is unable to face a united Opposition in the polls,” Jha added.
