Odisha: Retired professor missing for two days, found dead at Jobra barrage in Cuttack

A retired professor of Ravenshaw University, who had been missing for the last two days, was found dead at Jobra barrage on river Mahanadi in Cuttack on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Baishnav Charan Singh.

Singh, 77, a retired chemistry professor, who was staying in Bhubaneswar, went missing on December 15. Later his family members lodged a missing complaint with police. Both his daughters , a sonand daughter-in-law are well-settled.

The police launched an investigation following the FIR lodged by the family.

The cops traced him boarding a “Mo Bus” at Bhubaneswar on December 15. “We last traced him alighting from the bus at Sikharpur and taking a lift on a bike. But his whereabouts remained unknown for the last two days,” said the police.

They suspect it to be a case of suicide. The body was sent for post-mortem. The reason behind the professor taking such an extreme step remains unknown. Sources said the professor was taking medicines for his mental health conditions.
